SUSTAINABILITY

We are a Sámi reindeer-herding family whose lives are deeply intertwined with our reindeer and the nature of the North. We work amidst the fells and forests on traditional grazing lands where our family has followed the reindeer for generations. For us, reindeer herding is not merely a job; it is a way of life and an integral part of Sámi culture. We pass on the knowledge and skills of our ancestors: understanding reindeer behavior, the rhythm of the seasons, and respect for nature. Each season brings its own tasks, and we learn together with our children, who grow up surrounded by reindeer and stories. We wish to cherish our language, our traditions, and our connection to the land that sustains us.

Our family business was born from a desire to share this way of life with others. We openly share insights into our work, the significance of reindeer and how we care for both the animals and the natural environment. It is important to us that every guest feels welcome, seen, and heard—as if stepping, for a moment, into our family and the long story of reindeer herding.

For us, responsibility is above all a way of life and a way of working with reindeer, not a separate project. Our family has herded reindeer in the same areas for generations, so every decision impacts both the natural environment and the opportunities for future generations to continue this work. That is why we strive to combine traditional Sámi knowledge with modern, environmentally friendly solutions, ensuring the well-being of the reindeer, nature and people in the long term.

In our operations, we prioritize local engagement and long-term solutions, ensuring that visits to the reindeer are conducted with respect for the animals. Responsible reindeer herding is founded on respect for nature, the animals, and this traditional livelihood. We aim to offer travelers safe and responsible experiences while sharing authentic and respectful insights into Sámi culture and reindeer herding.

Reindeer herding relies on natural pastures and careful management of grazing resources. Traditional pasture rotation and an understanding of natural conditions are central to Sámi reindeer herding. For many Sámi, reindeer herding is not merely a livelihood but an integral part of their language, traditional knowledge, sense of community, and culture passed down through generations. It sustains the vitality of the Sámi Homeland and provides a source of income in sparsely populated areas.

Responsibility is an integral part of daily life at our reindeer farm and tourism business. We strive to minimize waste, sort waste carefully, and prioritize sustainable, long-lasting solutions. We favor local products and partners in our operations. We also retail products from local and regional producers, thereby supporting the vitality of the area and local production. We operate in accordance with the principles of responsible tourism and are committed to continuous improvement. Our company is participating in the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) program, demonstrating our commitment to the ongoing development of responsible tourism practices.
